Barrier Options
What are the critical qualities of packaged foods? Freshness and safety. Weyerhaeuser's liquid packaging board features advanced barriers that ensure the contents transport well, stay fresh, retain vitamins and nutrients, and do not leak. Ninety percent of our paperboard comes with a protective barrier of polyethylene, a type of polymer, applied in an extrusion coating process. This protective barrier promotes ink adhesion for high-quality printing and can be sealed with heat. The polyethylene coating is applied on site through a strategic alliance with Pacific Lamination, a business unit of TetraPak. We also offer board coated with special barriers for the most demanding end uses. Barrier options include:
- Polyethylene coating-normally used for dairy products
- MOXY™ barrier-a family of proprietary, medium-oxygen barriers made of nylon for products with high taste vulnerability
- Custom laminate barriers (for example, foil)-available for special applications
