Sustainability

Norpac

NORPAC is serious about our commitment to conservation and sustainable forestry. We consider this commitment in every part of our operations. From our management of sustainable forestlands to our progressive manufacturing processes, we continuously work to reduce our impact on the Earth.

Raw Materials

Our procurement system is certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® standard, and all paper produced is certified to the SFI Certified Fiber Sourcing Standard CERT – 0048284, confirming we take a responsible approach to obtaining fiber. All of the chips used in our paper manufacturing come from sawmill residuals or pulp logs unsuitable for other uses.

Manufacturing

The NORPAC thermo mechanical pulp process provides 100 percent more efficient use of wood fiber than the conventional kraft process. And our modern bleaching method is completely chlorine-free. In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we use biomass fuels in manufacturing for lower greenhouse gas emissions and a healthier, more sustainable environment. We also employ an acid-free papermaking process, which improves the permanence of our product and enables the use of environmentally friendly fillers in our paper.

Recycling

Our deinking facility consumes 600 to 700 tons of recycled newspapers daily, the equivalent of over 1.5 million newspapers. That's equal to all of the old newspapers collected daily in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
