Managing for Non-Timber Income
As stewards of the timberland we own, we have a responsibility to manage both economic and non-economic values. Noneconomic values include
protecting wildlife, habitat, and water quality, while economic values extend beyond simply growing trees. We set sustainability goals
to maintain or enhance the ecosystem services provided by our timberlands, and to help us and our stakeholders understand the full range
of values our timberlands offer. We encourage you to learn more about our
ecosystem services.
We own the mineral rights on our timberland, and we have a team of professionals dedicated to realizing
the income potential from mineral, oil, and gas deposits.
We also have a team focused on identifying and capitalizing on the real estate opportunities, such as our
forest reserve homesites, that emerge as the population grows and land uses change.
Each of our operating regions also has a manager accountable for exploring other uses, such as hunting and cell tower leases. Long term,
we see potential in biofuels and carbon credits.
