Weyerhaeuser Select seed will cost a little more…but you'll find that it returns A LOT MORE!

Our tests show that typical lots available for sale range from 10 to 20 percent volume 'lift'. The 'lift' available for sales will increase through time as future generations of orchards come online. For easy reference, we group seedlots into categories from V5 (volume 'lift' between 5 and 10 percent) to V1 (volume lift greater than 40 percent).

Research is showing that higher genetic gain means faster "greenup", capturing the site more quickly and giving you more flexibility in harvest of adjacent stands. The photo to the right shows the growth difference between a seed lot of top Weyerhaeuser Select parents and a local unselected lot by age 6.

Trials around the world are also showing that you can expect much higher yield and value in your timber harvests from higher-gain stock, although the amount depends on the quality and intensity of stand management. The graphs below display the harvest value and 'net present value' benefit of different levels of genetic gain on three different Douglas-fir site indexes, given a representative set of stumpage prices.
