Forests are the heart of our operation, which means that caring for the environment where they grow keeps our business healthy and thriving. When you join the team at Weyerhaeuser, you inherit a history rich in knowledge, human ingenuity and an unyielding commitment to environmental stewardship.
What We Do
Operate responsibly—We have environmental systems in place at all of our manufacturing and timberlands operations which decrease waste disposal, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase operating efficiency and improve energy conservation.
Manage and conserve our forests—We manage our forests so they grow wood quickly, at rates two to three times those of unmanaged forests, while protecting environmental values such as wildlife and water quality.
Set our standards high—All of our North American forestland is independently certified to meet strict third-party standards for sustainable wood procurement and forest management.
Maintain wildlife habitats—Weyerhaeuser carefully adheres to all laws protecting endangered or at-risk species that inhabit our U.S. timberlands and invests millions of dollars in research to continually improve our practices.
Shape the future of sustainability—Using biomass as fuel, we help to reduce reliance on nonrenewable forms of energy. We’re also researching and developing clean-burning transportation fuel made from cellulose fibers.
How You Can Help
While there are plenty of career paths within Weyerhaeuser that are directly engaged with our environmental performance, we encourage all employees to contribute in their own individual ways. The following are just a few examples of how you can help us deliver on our commitment to being green:
Lead—Be a role model for responsible practices and behaviors in your daily job functions. Share your ideas and knowledge with others, or spearhead a new project that promotes a smarter use of resources.
Perform—Take advantage of opportunities to add value, while performing safely and with integrity.
Invent—Look for ways to improve a process or procedure, be it companywide or as part of your daily activities. Perhaps you’ll discover a greener product we can manufacture or a new method for saving energy.
Grow—Partner with a mentor, or seek out opportunities to educate yourself on company practices and what they mean for the world around us. Your interest in learning is a big part of our growth as a company.
Our people use ingenuity to make the most out of every tree we harvest in a way that serves humanity and protects the environment. Bring your discipline, focus and inventive spirit, and together we can achieve our vision of a better tomorrow.
