How to look good on paper.

The following tips on writing a standout resume come directly from Weyerhaeuser managers:

  1. Keep it simple, concise and direct. Avoid lengthy descriptions, and be sure your relevant qualifications can be easily and quickly identified.
  2. Avoid using vague or generic language. Highlight your specific experience and skills in a way that clearly relates to the position for which you’re applying.
  3. Use action-oriented language that accurately reflects your past responsibilities and achievements.
  4. Include examples of how you’ve helped your employer, department or campus work team to identify a new solution, or improve a process or operation.
  5. Make note of special projects (including school or volunteer work) where you developed transferrable skills or gained related experience.
  6. List applicable academic coursework and how it better prepares you to perform the functions of the position.
  7. Establish your goals. Include an objective to let us know what you’re looking for in your next position and the type of environment where you’re most likely to succeed.

Weyerhaeuser is an innovative and diverse company, one that’s active in our social and global communities. In addition to your skills and qualifications, we look for well-rounded individuals who would fit in well with our culture. Remember your resume is your first impression. Between your objective, experience, education and interests is the opportunity to express who you are, as much as what you’ve accomplished in the past and your potential for the future.
