Located in Federal Way, Washington, the building was the first major application of open-landscape office design in the United States when built in 1971. It won numerous awards for architecture and energy efficiency.

Weyerhaeuser entered the newsprint business through an important joint venture with Jujo Paper Company of Japan. The newly formed North Pacific Paper Corporation (NORPAC) opened a mill in Longview, Washington, in 1979.
Meeting the World
Overseas sales offices sprang up in the 1960s to serve the company's growing international business. Europe and Asia became major export markets, buying pulp, containerboard, lumber, newsprint and oriented strand board. In 1974, Weyerhaeuser became the first U.S. industrial company to ship products to the Republic of China. Today, the company sells products to more than 60 countries worldwide.

The Audubon Society singled out Weyerhaeuser in 1974 as an industry leader in a full-length article recognizing its efforts toward sustainable forestry and pollution control.
Weyerhaeuser Technology Center Opens
Anticipating that research would be the key to forestry and forest products in the 21st century, the Weyerhaeuser Technology Center opened on 40 acres near Weyerhaeuser headquarters. The center holds more than 115 laboratories and employs hundreds of scientists, engineers, technicians and support personnel. The center conducts leading-edge work in forestry, pollution control and wood product research.
