Thomas M. Luthy

tluthy.jpg (8648 bytes)Tom Luthy joined Weyerhaeuser Company as an analyst in operations research in 1968. In 1971, he became group system director for the Fiber Products Division. In 1973, he became Wood Products business and marketing information manager, and from 1974 to 1977, he was Wood Products Division manager. In 1977, he was named acting vice president for the plywood business, becoming vice president in 1978. From 1981 to 1985, he was Northern Washington Region vice president.

In early 1985, he was named assistant general manager of Westwood Shipping Lines, a Weyerhaeuser Company subsidiary, and was appointed Westwood’s president at mid-year. In 1989, he was named vice president, Engineered Fiber Products. In April 1995, he was elected senior vice president, Wood Products with responsibility for Weyerhaeuser’s lumber, oriented strand board, plywood and composite products businesses. Luthy plans to retire from Weyerhaeuser in March of 1999. Meanwhile he is active in supporting special projects.

Luthy received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., in 1961, and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Case Institute of Technology, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1964. He earned his master of business administration degree from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., in 1968.

Luthy has been a member of the board of directors of Amigos de las Americas since 1993 and is a member of the Citizens Oversight Panel for Sound Transit.
