SAFETY

Safety is a core value at Weyerhaeuser and the company’s number one priority. We measure safety by recordable incident rate, which is the number of recordable safety incidents per 100 employees per year. In 1998, our recordable incident rate was 3.8 compared with 4.6 in 1997, a 17 percent decrease. The target for 1999 is 2.5. The ongoing goal is a rate of less than one. Those facilities or operations receiving significant external recognition for their efforts to improve safety during 1998 include:

  PULP MILL
    Flint River, Georgia

Received a “Star” plant site designation by the US Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Flint River is the fifth Weyerhaeuser facility to receive OSHA’s highest award for accident prevention and on-the-job safety performance.

  CONTAINERBOARD PACKAGING PLANT
    Amarillo, Texas
