Brace Yourself: 3 Essential Safety Tips for TJI Joist Installation

January 19, 2023 in Wood Products - #trusjoist

Trus Joist® TJI® joists are a key part of building a high-performance floor. The dimensional stability of TJI joists help them resist warping, twisting and shrinking that can lead to squeaky floors. TJI joists are lightweight and come in long lengths, which makes them faster and easier to install than traditional framing, saving you both time and money.

I-Joists are unstable until properly braced. To help keep you safe, Weyerhaeuser launched wy.com/besafe in 2021. TJI Joists now come stamped with that web address to ensure all TJI users have access to our Installation Guides and are aware of proper product use and safe installation. “Safe use of our products has always been at the forefront of our application efforts,” says Renee Strand, EWP Engineering Manager.

To avoid injury during TJI storage and installation, observe the following guidelines:

1. Do not walk on installed TJI joists until the simple-to-apply safety bracing (as described at wy.com/besafe) has been installed.

Warning do not walk on joists without safety bracing

2. Do not stack building materials on unsheathed joists. Stack only over beams or walls.

3. Do not walk on TJI joists that have been turned flat on their sides.
